Resurrection Sunday!

Family Pic

Near the top of my list of "hard things about becoming a foreign missionary" is getting the braces removed from my two children BEFORE their teeth are straight and AFTER I've paid the money.  Sorry, no refunds.  So sorry you're moving.  To make things worse, we had a family photo done before the braces were off!  Bad timing in my book.  But God's plan is perfect, and I trust him with their teeth.

Welcome to My New Home

I just bought a new home! It's a fancy looking Ful laptop backpack that only cost $24 at TJ Maxx. If you add the $15 for a personal organizer from LLBean, then it's $39. The total cost of my new home will drastically increase once I add the Acer netbook I've been testing out every time I'm in Staples.

Since we will only be camping or in temporary housing for the next several years, this backpack is now my new home. I remember staring with reverence and awe at my brother's pack when he stayed at our house for a few weeks. It had been to all 50 states with him and took a few overseas jaunts as well. Even more than his customized travel van, the pack seemed like his house. You'll have to visit his blog to read about his experience in Spain when, after a stop at a cafe, he suddenly realized it was gone. The story includes a wild, frantic, nightmarish search through the subway and city streets. I think I'll definitey need to add a bike lock to attach my pack to my body somehow to avoid a similar fate.

So, which of the following six backpacks will stand up to the 1 year test that includes rugged, high altitude tent camping, rainforest downpours, daily treks to school in Costa Rica, and multiple plane, train and bus rides: LLBean Deluxe Book Pack (the two girls), Cabela's Tag Along Day Pack (the two boys), Ful platinum backpack (mine), or High Seirra Access Pack (Mark's)? All the packs were between $20 and $25, so they all cost about the same. The LLBean bags were the cheapest with no shipping costs, but can be replaced at any time if they are not satisfactory. Mark's has a neon yellow plastic cover that pops out of a bottom compartment. Water proof in seconds! I think I'd use it to shield my hair instead of the backpack, but that's me.

We're giving up a cute three bedroom house for 6 backpacks. It makes sense to us! We all hope to gain a more global perspective on current events, a greater appreciation for our American heritage, and a more trusting relationship with our Savior. Little packs, big plans.
